About Us

WHO WE ARE

African Ancestry Link is a nonprofit dedicated to reconnecting Africans with their roots and empowering them with knowledge about their heritage and health through DNA testing. We recognize that the transatlantic slave trade separated many African families across continents, leaving a lasting impact on identity and family connections. While the diaspora has used DNA testing to rediscover their roots, many Africans remain without access to this life-changing tool.

Through partnerships with organizations like ancestry.com, we aim to make DNA testing accessible to Africans in the diaspora and the continent, helping them uncover their ancestry, reconnect with family, and make informed health decisions. We aim to bridge the gap between Africa and its global diaspora, uniting people through shared heritage and technology.

OUR STORY

African Ancestry Link (AAL) emerged from the realization that while many in the African diaspora have embraced DNA testing to explore their ancestry, most Africans on the continent remain unexposed to such opportunities due to barriers like limited access, lack of awareness, and financial constraints. Our mission is purposeful and transformative: we provide free DNA kits to Africans on the continent, thereby expanding access and inclusion in global genetic databases. This initiative not only helps individuals uncover and understand their personal histories but also bridges the substantial gaps between Africans and the global diaspora.

During the era of the transatlantic slave trade, countless ancestors were forcibly dispersed, leaving a legacy of fragmented family histories across continents. Today, for many descendants, DNA testing remains the only link to reconnect with long-lost relatives and reclaim their heritage. However, a significant challenge persists—without widespread DNA testing in Africa, those in the diaspora often find it difficult to locate close familial matches.

Recognizing this disparity, we founded African Ancestry Link to create pathways for reconnection and discovery.

By making DNA testing accessible and offering free kits, we enable Africans on the continent to discover their roots, connect with distant family members, and gain valuable genetic health insights. Our efforts extend beyond simple ancestry tests; we are committed to educating communities about genetic health risks and providing personalized nutrition plans based on DNA and blood group analyses. This comprehensive approach empowers individuals to make informed health decisions that can extend their lifespans and enhance their well-being.

Our work fosters a global connection, uniting Africans across continents, cultures, and generations. We believe that understanding where one comes from is a fundamental human right, and such knowledge can inspire pride, healing, and unity. At African Ancestry Link, we do more than just nonprofit work; we are part of a movement to connect, empower, and celebrate Africans and their shared heritage—one DNA test at a time. We are building a future where every African, no matter where they live, can discover who they truly are and where they belong.

OUR MISSION

To create a future where every African, regardless of geographic or economic barriers, has access to DNA testing, fostering a deep understanding of their ancestry, enhancing their health awareness, and connecting them with relatives worldwide.

OUR VISION

AAL envisions a fully established global DNA database for Africans in diaspora and continent To empower them with knowledge about their heritage and health  by ensuring every person of African descent can trace their lineage, understand their genetic health, and strengthen their connection to African heritage.
